Default Personal Army Build?

Does anyone have a build for a N/R that controls a personal army? I want Beast Mastery, Blood Magic, Death Magic, and at least some Soul Reaping.

So far I'm level 2 and I have:

1 Beast Mastery
1 Blood Magic
2 Death Magic
0 Soul Reaping.

Didn't have enough points to even get 1 Soul Reaping. So how much of each should I get? I was thinking something like: 12 Death Magic, 10 Beast Master, 9 Blood Magic, 6 Soul Reaping which takes 199 points, which means I'll have point left, I'll probably screw around with it. Should I trade some Blood Magic for some Soul Reaping? Like: 12 Death Magic, 10 Beast Master, 7 Blood Magic, 8 Soul Reaping?

BTW I don't need skills, except for the elite skill, can't decide which one I should get in the future.

eh, MM + pet is not a GREAT idea. the pet is basically no more powerful than a minion, and when it dies, it screws with your skill bar. Personally, I'd advise N/D for conviction and mystic regen (yes still good even after the nerf). But that's just me. I'm not going to bother with pet/minion build ideas because frankly, they are not very good.

You should probably concentrate on just two lines. At the very beginning put points into beast mastery (make your pet do more damage) and blood magic (for self-heal), then as you progress and start finding the going slow, you should probably switch to spending all points on death (make your minions more powerful and last longer) and soul reaping (free energy whenever something, including a minion, dies).

You will also find that both necro and ranger are pretty much self-sufficient professions which rarely have much use for skills from other professions, and as you're a primary necro, arguably the most powerful profession in the game, you will likely end up not using many, if any, ranger skills.

For now, I advise charming a pet and let it tag around with you just for fun - but don't put any points into beast mastery. Use your Necro skills to level up. When you are a MUCH higher level and are well into the game, ditch that old pet and find a cool Necro pet like a Spider, or Raven. Death level it to Dire and then when you're playing with heroes or henchmen bring it out just for fun. Most likely you will eventually change your secondary to either Monk or Mesmer, but any time you wish you can change back to Ranger and bring back your pet. Just remember, never put any points into beast mastery.

Early in the game, you can have some success using a pet and minions together. However, as things progress, you'll see how impratical it is. You just won't have enough Attribute Points or room on your skillbar to properly support both.

There are a couple of Ranger skills that can be useful to you throughout the game. [skill]serpent's quickness[/skill] and [skill]healing spring[/skill] top that short list.

Bottom line: make sure you put most of your Attribute Points into Death Magic & Soul Reaping if you want to use minions effectively.
